Comedy is Nollywood's most commercially reliable genre. But it is also its most underestimated. Critics don't take it seriously. Producers don't always invest in it seriously. And yet comedies consistently outperform dramas at the Nigerian box office.
For agencies, comedy marketing requires a specific skill set. The trailers need to be funny—not just in the clips they select, but in how those clips are edited and sequenced.
And crucially, comedy marketing must not over-explain the jokes. A well-cut 15-second clip that makes someone genuinely laugh is worth more than a two-minute trailer that telegraphs every punchline.
