Mental health is one of Nigeria's most urgent and least represented narratives. Depression, anxiety, and trauma are present in millions of Nigerian lives and almost entirely absent from Nigerian cinema—or worse, present as a source of comedy or shame.
The films that have begun to address this have found grateful audiences who feel finally seen.
For producers and agencies, mental health content carries its own marketing opportunities. NGOs, mental health organizations, and pharmaceutical companies are potential partners. The first Nollywood film to tell a sensitive, accurate, and compassionate mental health story will fill every cinema in Lagos.
