Olawale Aderemi, a veteran of Nigeria's film industry, died on October 23, 2026. The 58-year-old actor, whose career spanned more than three decades, was found unresponsive at his Lagos residence, according to family statements. Officials say funeral arrangements are being finalised and that the cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

Aderemi began his career in the early 1990s, emerging from stage theatre into television and then film. He earned recognition for his roles in community dramas and mainstream productions, including the long-running series "Market Streets" and the feature films "The Last Ledger" and "Crossing Home." Directors and colleagues remember him for a steady presence on set and his ability to inhabit both comic and dramatic parts.

Director Ngozi Amadi, who worked with Aderemi on two films, described him as disciplined and generous with younger actors. "He had a calm authority about him and always made time to guide newcomers," Amadi said. Actor Chukwuemeka Nnaji, a frequent co-star, called Aderemi "a craftsman who took his work seriously and loved his community." Several cast mates have posted messages of condolence on social media, sharing memories of rehearsals and on-set camaraderie.

Beyond the screen, Aderemi was active in talent development initiatives. He ran workshops for emerging actors and supported a local stage troupe in Lagos. Members of that troupe said he was instrumental in helping them mount productions and in securing small grants for set construction and costumes.

As news of his death spread, fans gathered at locations associated with his career to lay flowers and leave notes. A local cinema that screened many of his films placed a tribute poster at its entrance. Industry organisations have expressed condolences and said they will coordinate with Aderemi's family on a memorial service.

The family has asked for privacy while they finalise funeral plans. A statement released on behalf of Aderemi's wife, Ifeoma Aderemi, thanked well-wishers for their support and asked that the focus remain on his body of work and his contributions to the industry.

Olawale Aderemi's passing is the latest loss felt across Nollywood. He leaves behind a legacy of diverse performances, mentorship and a commitment to community theatre. He will be remembered by colleagues and audiences for the warmth and depth he brought to his roles.
