Nigeria produces more films than almost any country in the world. But most of them never reach the rest of Africa. Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Ethiopia have growing middle classes and an appetite for African stories.
The pan-African distribution opportunity is enormous and largely untapped. Language is a barrier in some markets, but dubbing and subtitling are cheap relative to the potential audience size.
Brands with pan-African ambitions should be funding this expansion. A Nollywood film distributed across ten African countries is a brand partnership that reaches vastly more consumers than a Lagos-only campaign.
